# Adding and arranging fields

> How to add fields and widgets to your form and control their order.

## Adding a field

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the field palette">
    The field palette is the left sidebar in the editor. It lists all fields from your connected Airtable table, grouped by type.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Drag or click to add">
    Drag a field from the palette onto the canvas, or click the field to add it to the bottom of the current page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure the field">
    Click the field in the canvas to open its settings in the right panel. Set the label, description, validation rules, and any field-specific options.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Info>
  You can only add each field once per page. To display the same field on multiple pages, you need to add it to each page separately. The value from the last page wins on submission.
</Info>

## Finding fields you've already placed

If an Airtable field is already on another page in this form, it shows in the palette as a **placed** row:

* A small `On page N: <Title>` meta line tells you where it lives.
* A **Jump to field** icon button on the right takes you to that page and selects the field.
* A **Move here** icon button moves the field from its current page onto the page you're editing — useful when you put a field on the wrong page. A toast appears with **Undo** so you can revert in one click.

The same affordance shows up in the **Add Field** modal so you don't have to leave the canvas to track down a field that's not where you expected it.

## Arranging fields

Drag the grip handle (the vertical dots icon on the left side of each field card) to reorder fields. Drop zones appear between rows as you drag.

You cannot drag a field between pages. Remove it from one page and add it to another instead, or use **Move here** from the palette.

## Adding widgets

Widgets are non-data elements: text blocks, images, embeds, section dividers, signature pads, and location capture. They appear in the **Content and Layout** section at the bottom of the field palette.

Drag a widget onto the canvas the same way you'd add a field.

## Grouping fields with sections

A **Section** widget groups fields under a collapsible header. This is useful for long forms where you want to organize fields into logical clusters without adding pages.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Drag a Section widget">
    Find **Section** under Content and Layout in the palette, and drag it onto the canvas.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Move fields inside the section">
    Drag fields into the section. The section header appears above them.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Configure the section">
    Click the section to set its title, description, and whether it should be collapsible.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Removing a field

Hover over a field and click the trash icon on its drag handle to remove it. Removing a field from the form does not delete it from your Airtable table. It only removes it from the form layout. Submissions will leave that field blank in Airtable.

## Refreshing fields from Airtable

If you add new fields to your Airtable table after creating the form, click **Sync fields** at the top of the editor toolbar to pull the latest schema. New fields will appear in the palette.
