Can I calculate driving distance between records in Airtable?

Does Filla calculate travel time as well as distance?

Yes. For driving, walking, bicycling, and transit modes, Filla calculates both the route distance and the estimated travel time. Travel time is based on Google Maps route data and accounts for typical traffic patterns and road conditions. Distance is written to one number field and travel time to another, so you can sort and filter by either metric. For the Haversine (straight-line) calculation method, only distance is computed because there is no route involved.

Do I need a Google Maps API key?

No. All distance calculations are included on every Filla plan with no API key required. Straight-line (Haversine) calculations are done mathematically without any external service. Driving, walking, bicycling, and transit calculations use Google Maps route data, but Filla handles the integration for you. What is the difference between Haversine and Google Maps distance?

Haversine distance is the straight-line ("as the crow flies") distance between two points on Earth's surface. It uses a mathematical formula that does not consider roads, terrain, or obstacles. Haversine is fast, free (no API call), and useful for approximate distances and radius filtering. Google Maps distance follows actual routes: roads for driving, sidewalks for walking, bike lanes for cycling, and transit networks for public transport. Google Maps distances are always longer than Haversine because real routes are never perfectly straight. Use Haversine for rough proximity sorting and Google Maps for accurate travel planning.
